This was the day the Tour could have ended on the road to Aix-Les-Bains. The riders had halted 3 times before it was decided that they would ride the rest of the stage 'piano'.
Maybe this compromise was necessary in order for the Tour to continue at all, though it was unfortunate for the fans, who had to wait an extra couple of hours merely to see the riders slowly pass en-masse.
This shot was taken on the Mont Revard climb, one of the last major obstacles of the race.
The continuation of the race was still in doubt the next morning, until the riders signed on.
